If you didn’t see McDonald’s 2015 Super Bowl Commercial, you must. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.
Did you see that? More importantly, did you FEEL that – that loving feeling? What makes this Lovin’ campaign so loveable? Well, I have a few ideas.
First and foremost, we are all customers. And in this day and age when decent customer service can seem to be hit or miss, a smiling, energetic, and more importantly, authentic employee can quickly turn an ordinary task or service into a touching and memorable moment.
Secondly, both the employee and the customer treated each other with mutual respect. No one thought the other was above or below them. When the employee shares the acceptable “payment” to their customer, engaging them in a personal way, they are helping them show a little bit of their best self, brilliantly shining from beneath the surface of routine and order.
At Live Excellence, we believe every person and every business has that same brilliance—it just needs a little uncovering, encouragement and buffing to shine. By providing exceptional service to our clients, we help them do the same and, in turn, help them realize their full sales and service potential.
How can you be your best self? Are you your best self when you are working on a project that is close to your heart? Spending the waking hours planning out the details until everything is just right?
Or are you your best self when you are in the trenches with your team solving a crisis? How about engaging an audience of 200+ people at your company’s annual meeting?
No matter where you feel you find your best self, the important part is to find it. Keep it. Buff it. Shine it. And that’s where we come in.
In this commercial the McDonald’s employees are bringing out the best selves in their customers by surprising them with a personal touch of life outside the routine. Order, pay, leave. It doesn’t have to be that way, and in many ways, it shouldn’t. Every day should be met with the same spontaneous jolt of joy that comes from uncovering your best self. We should all be ordering up!
