Double Rainbow over Malbu

Double Rainbow over Malibu

Rainbows are such a beautiful symbol. No matter how many times I see one in the sky, I can’t help but stop for a moment, take a breath, and marvel at its beauty.

Wikipedia defines rainbows as: “A rainbow is an optical and meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicolored arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun. Rainbows can be full circles; however, the average observer sees only an arc formed by illuminated droplets above the ground,[1] and centered on a line from the sun to the observer’s eye.”

A phenomenon. For something that can appear so regularly in daily life; whether it’s a clothing print pattern, poster, or kid’s backpack, the rainbow is a force to be reckoned with.

Where I live, rainbows only occur on a rare occasion due to the lack of rain we get in California.  But when they do, it’s simply breathtaking and glorious.  I pull over every time and take as many pictures as I can.

Have you ever seen a rainbow while you’re driving? It looks as if you are driving right into it, under it, or sometimes even through it, and yet, you never quite seem to catch it. It’s elusive and seemingly always unattainable. Does it ever feel like your dreams are the same way?

Sometimes you have to go through the storm to get to the other side of the rainbow. While there may not be a pot of gold waiting for you, you’ll find something much better: a new perspective and a better idea of who you are.

A rainbow is a “reflection”, “refraction”, and “dispersion” of light in water. So is your life and the choices you make. Choosing to emit light and positivity despite a difficult time or circumstances gives others the chance to see a beautiful reflection of your true colors.

So, let your light shine despite the rain, the clouds or the storm you may be experiencing.

And the next time you wish you were somewhere over the rainbow, adjust your mindset ever so slightly and walk through the storm, looking up into the sky for that beautifully bent light. And others will see it, too, and marvel at the phenomenon.  That phenomenon is YOU!
